Position Available: Director of Research, State Compliance and Special Projects

The Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board Inc. (SSTGB), headquartered in Westby, WI, is in search of a person to lead the research and state compliance functions of the organization and assist the Executive Director on various special projects.  This person will also be trained in various other critical areas of the organization to step in when the primary person is unavailable and provide assistance as needed. The person selected may be allowed to work from a location other than Westby, WI.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong Streamlined Sales Tax background and be familiar with the activities of the Governing Board, Executive Committee, State and Local Advisory Council, Compliance Review Interpretations Committee, and Audit and Certification Committees.  They will also have tax research experience, be detail oriented, have the ability to multi-task, have extensive experience using the Microsoft Office 365 suite of products including the various editing tools in Word and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Examples of Duties:

  • Complete the annual state compliance reviews and work with states to resolve compliance issues
  • Research and respond to email and telephone inquiries related to the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA) and related  rules
  • Develop and recommend Certificate of Compliance and Taxability Matrix changes
  • Lead the State and Local Advisory Council and workgroup meetings along with the Chair/Vice-Chair
  • Review legislative proposals from member states to ensure compliance with the SSUTA requirements
  • Assist states wanting to join the SSTGB with their legislation to help ensure compliance with the requirements of the SSUTA
  • Participate in and assist with various Audit Committee, Certification Committee and Compliance, Review and Interpretations Committee activities, which could include leading workgroups
  • Assist in the development and presentation of SSUTA training materials for state/business personnel
  • Assist the Executive Director on special projects
  • Represent the Governing Board at various meetings as needed
  • Assist with developing, posting and updating information on the SSTGB website
  • Review and suggest improvements to the SSTGB website
  • Review and update Frequently Asked Questions and SSTGB Rules
  • Draft articles related to remote sales tax collection responsibilities and tools offered by the SSTGB
  • Other duties as assigned

 

The position offers paid holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) and a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan. Some overnight travel, including some evenings and weekends, is required.
